Weightlifting


  • Coach Marc Chasnov was introduced to Olympic Weightlifting in 1968 by his father Alan Chasnov. Early in his lifting career Coach Chasnov was a state and regional champion in New York and New England.

  • He competed at the 1964 Olympic Trials and would become a multiple National Master's Champion and Master's World Champion in 1993 at 72 years old!

  • Coach Marc Chasnov competed from 1968 through 1983 and then again from 1991 to 1995. Coach Chasnov was New York State Champion in 1974 and placed fifth at the 1983 Junior Nationals. He continued his second career in 1991 by placing third in the National Master's Championship setting a Master's snatch record in the process.

  • Coach Chasnov was far more successful as a coach and researcher in Olympic Weightlifting than a lifter himself and has been involved in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting as a coach for more than thirty years.

  • He is in part responsible for the start of the women's movement in Olympic Weightlifting in the United States by introducing women to Olympic Weightlifting in 1978.

  • Coach Chasnov has coached female weightlifters who went on to become national champions as well as participants in the first Women's World Championships in 1987 in Daytona Beach,Florida!

  • Coach Chasnov created the female weightlifting team Les Petits Animaux in 1982.The New York based team represented the Metropolitan, New York Local Weightlifting Committee.

  • Les Petits Animaux would eventually include male participants and become one of the most successful female teams nationally and combination female/male teams regionally and statewide.

  • Coach Chasnov is responsible for attending and coaching his lifters at the United States National Championships from 1985-1996.

  • Coach Chasnov was invited to coach at multiple National Olympic Sports Festivals as well as the Continental NACACI Championships.

  • Coach Chasnov has personally coached his female lifter, Suzanne Kim at the 1987 Women's World Weightlifting Championship. He has also personally coached his male lifter Konstantine Starikovitch at the 1996 Olympics where he snatched a Senior American Record of 177.5kgs.

  • Presently coach Chasnov remains active in coaching. His most recent success was to coach the Hudson Valley Region in New York to their first and only Empire State Games victory at the 2007 Empire State Games.
