Physical Therapists treat neurological and musculoskeletal injuries utilizing many physical methods. Although professionally educated, trained, and licensed as a Physical Therapist I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of soft-tissue injuries. I consider myself first and foremost a SOFT-TISSUE SPECIALIST! In 1974 I enrolled in graduate courses in biomechanics and kinesiology. The subject of my term project for these courses was the biomechanical analysis of two different styles in the snatch lift in Olympic Weightlifting. The only available scientific information in the United States applicable for my weightlifting project was the Soviet Sport Review. Coincidentally each journal included research in the effectiveness of massage to restore athletic function. I immersed myself in the research and application of massage to improve recovery from sports training. Eventually I directed my skills to the use of soft-tissue manipulation in the rehabilitation of soft-tissue injuries. Soft-tissues include: muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia, and retinaculum. Thirty-two years of manual evaluation and treatment of soft-tissue injuries have provided me with the empirical evidence to suggest that deep tissue massage is the most successful physical method to rehabilitate soft-tissue injuries!
